A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special is finally getting closer to its second season, and the latest update gives fans a much clearer idea of what is coming next.
On September 15, the anime released a new trailer and main visual, while the official website confirmed that Season 2 will begin airing in Japan on October 7, 2026. The new trailer also gives fans their first full preview of FLOW’s new opening song, “Sorrow.” For viewers who enjoyed Desir’s first attempt at changing the future, the new season looks like it is about to raise the stakes.
Desir Has More Than One Problem to Solve
The story follows Desir Herrman, a mage who gets a second chance after humanity is nearly destroyed by the Shadow Worlds. In the original timeline, Desir and the other surviving heroes fail to stop the disaster. Instead of accepting that ending, Desir somehow returns 13 years into the past.
He remembers what is coming, including the people he lost and the battles that eventually destroyed their world. This time, he has the opportunity to prepare earlier and try to change the outcome. That idea remains at the centre of Season 2, but Desir is no longer working alone.
The Old Team Is Back
Romantica Eru, Pram Schneider and Azest Kingscrown are returning alongside Desir. Their relationships have always been an important part of the series because Desir’s advantage isn’t simply his knowledge of magic. He knows how dangerous the future can become, and that makes every decision involving his friends more complicated.
The new trailer brings the group back together while also showing new threats standing in their way. The official Season 2 introduction specifically points toward another dangerous Shadow World conflict and a new enemy connected to Desir’s fears about Romantica. That gives the upcoming season a more personal direction than simply repeating the first season’s battles.
FLOW Is Back With a New Opening
One of the familiar names returning for Season 2 is FLOW. The Japanese rock band performed the opening theme for the first season and is now returning with “Sorrow” for the new episodes. The song is previewed in the latest trailer, giving fans an early look at the musical direction of the new season. Krage is also handling the ending theme for the second season. For a series built around changing the future, the music fits the show’s emotional side as much as its action.

What Has Changed Since Season 1?
The first season aired in 2023, so there has been a considerable gap between the two seasons. That makes the new trailer particularly useful for returning viewers. It brings back the main characters, introduces the next stage of Desir’s journey and shows that the story is moving toward another major conflict.
Taishi Kawaguchi returns as director, while Arvo Animation continues production. Takamitsu Kono is back for series composition and scripts, with Hiromi Kato handling character designs. The main cast also returns, including Takuma Terashima as Desir, Sayumi Suzushiro as Romantica, Natsumi Fujiwara as Pram and Asami Seto as Azest.
When Does Season 2 Start?
A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special Season 2 will premiere in Japan on October 7, 2026, on Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block and other Japanese broadcasters. Crunchyroll has also listed the series for its Fall 2026 lineup, with streaming availability outside Japan, China, Korea and Mongolia. India is included in Crunchyroll’s listed availability for the season.
The new trailer doesn’t reveal everything, which is probably a good thing. Desir already knows how badly the original future ended. Now the interesting part is seeing how much he can actually change. For fans who have been waiting since 2023, October is finally looking a lot closer.
