Firefly Wedding Just Dropped a New Trailer — And It Looks Darker Than Expected

The new Firefly Wedding trailer has arrived, giving fans a better look at one of Fall 2026’s more unusual romance anime. The series has been building attention ahead of its October premiere, but this latest video adds a clearer idea of how dark the story is going to feel.

At the centre of the story is Satoko Kirigaya, a young woman from a noble family in the Meiji era. She is seriously ill and knows that she does not have much time. Her plans to find a suitable marriage take a sudden turn when she becomes the target of Shinpei Gotō, an assassin who is supposed to kill her. Satoko makes a desperate proposal instead: marry her.

A Love Story With a Dangerous Beginning

That setup is what separates Firefly Wedding from a straightforward historical romance. Satoko is trying to survive, while Shinpei’s feelings for her quickly become much more intense. Their relationship starts with a deal, but the story keeps asking what happens when that deal begins to feel real.

The new trailer leans into that tension. There are romantic moments, but they sit alongside scenes that feel threatening and unpredictable. It gives the anime a very different mood from the usual light romance series arriving this season.

The series is being animated by david production, the studio known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Fire Force. Takahiro Kamei is directing, Yuko Kakihara is handling the series composition and scripts, and Yukiko Aikei is designing the characters.

iri’s “Period” Sets the Mood

The new promotional video also introduces “Period”, the opening theme performed by singer-songwriter iri. This is her first anime opening, and the song gives the trailer a more emotional feel without taking away from the darker side of the story. The ending theme, “Yumegokochi (Trance)”, is performed by TOOBOE.

Firefly Wedding will premiere in Japan on October 9, 2026, in Fuji TV’s Noitamina block. Crunchyroll has confirmed the series for streaming in the Indian Subcontinent along with several other regions. The exact streaming time is still listed as TBA.

For anime fans looking for something beyond a typical school romance this fall, Firefly Wedding is arriving with a very different setup. The new trailer does not give away where Satoko and Shinpei’s relationship will end up, but it makes one thing clear: this is a romance where falling in love could be just as dangerous as the people chasing them.
